SAILING ON THE TRAIL OF ODYSSEUS

The best from two worlds

On adventurous paths we cross impressive landscapes and visit traditional villages. Through the most remote corners of the coast we encounter the turquoise blue expanse of the Ionian Sea. And as soon as we set foot on the boat, the breathtaking feeling of freedom on the water reaches us! Continuing from the logbook of the sailing trip: "From Lefkas we sail to Meganisi, then on to the uninhabited island of Atokos and on to Frikes on Ithaca. Over the west coast and past the cape it goes back to the port in Lefkas with a possible stop in Agios Nikitas (depending upon weather), whereby the wind has according to experience a word to say"! Our sailing trips are true adventure trips - discover the best of both worlds!

Our sailing areas are the islands in the Ionian Sea, from Corfu towards the south or in the other direction from Lefkas, the islands in the Saronic Gulf with a touch of the Peloponnese and the Sporades. Besides the usual sailing trip duration from Saturday to Friday, we also offer individual trips as well as one-day or three-day trips with experienced skipper.

THE SAILING ROUTE
From Lefkas we sail through the channel towards Spartochori on the north side of the island of Meganisi. On the way we stop for a swim in Varko and reach our destination, Spilia bay on the north side of Meganisi; dinner at Gerasimos. Next day after a stop for swimming in Rouda bay we reach Vathi in Ithaca in the afternoon. The main town of Vathi, where most of the 3,000 inhabitants live, is a symbol of the Mediterranean way of life. Hard to miss a statue of Odysseus at the harbor, whose home was also Ithaca. From Ithaca it is only a short way to Kefalonia. Our destination for the day is the town of Sami. A climb to the acropolis high above the small harbor town offers us a magnificent view of the island world we will be cruising through this week. Our next destination is the small island of Kalamos, stopping along the way at the uninhabited island of Atokos and later at Porto Leone, a gorgeous bay. Next day our destination is Palairos, a cozy fishing village on the Greek mainland. And the next day we cross over, passing Skorpios, the island of Onasis, and in the afternoon we reach Lefkas harbor again.

SAILING IN THE BLUE LAGOON OF ATHENS

Sailing trip in the Saronic Gulf

The Saronic Gulf, between the Corinth Channel, Attica and the Peloponnese is one of the most popular areas in Greece. The sea area, called the blue lagoon of Athens, offers beautiful destinations and great sailing conditions and is well protected from strong winds by the Greek mainland and the high mountains of the Peloponnese. It is well protected from the Meltemi wind, which often blows very strongly, especially in summer, but is weaker on the Peloponnesian east coast and comes from a northeasterly or southeasterly direction.

THE SAILING AREA
The cruise includes the three major islands of the Gulf: Poros with its olive groves and citrus plantations, Hydra, the car-free island of artists and musicians, and Aegina with the Temple of Aphaia, the Temple of Apollo, beautiful sandy beaches and pretty fishing villages. And just opposite, in the Peloponnese you can visit the theater of Epidauros, one of the best preserved ancient theaters.
POROS AND HYDRA
The first destination of the day is the island of Poros. Passing the island of Aegina, which we visit on the way back you can get in the mood for the next days. Poros consists of two parts, which are located next to each other. The northern part is lush green, the pine forests extend to the water, olives and citrus fruits are grown, in the north also wine. In the car-free main town in the southern part, paved roads lead past flat classical houses in pastel colors with tiled roofs up to the clock tower. Continuing south, Hydra is our next destination; a special island full of beauty and history. Only in the 20th century the old houses were restored, the historic townscape was preserved, the whole island is car-free. Writers and painters lived here, Leonard Cohen was inspired on Hydra to some of his most famous songs and poems.
EPIDAURUS, AGISTRI AND ÄGINA
Passing Poros and the Methanon peninsula, we return to the mainland and dock in Epidaurus. The ancient theater, once part of the most important sanctuary of Asclepius, is considered one of the best preserved in all of Greece. The next day we set course for the second largest of the Saronic Islands. Aegina was already strategically important in ancient times and economically very successful. The biggest sight is the Temple of Aphaia, one of the best preserved Doric temples in the country. In 1828 the first president of free Greece was sworn in on Aegina. Along the lively harbor pier, Aegina Town is home to inviting restaurants and pretty stores. On the way back to Alimos, we sail past the island of Salamis, site of the famous naval battle in 480 BC, in which the Greeks crushed the attacking Persians, averting the Persian threat to the Aegean.
